Newsletter. Jan 2008
Hello and welcome to all our members old and new. As Christmas and the New Year festivities become a fading memory it is time to look forward to the new season. Although the sailing programme starts on March the 30th there are some important activities well before then.
Winter work will start on February the 10th at 10.30. We will be undertaking many tasks, from cleaning the safety boats to clearing the undergrowth in the dinghy park. We need as many volunteers as possible, so please come along and lend a hand.
Would all members please remove their boats from the dinghy park by the 10th.
Saturday February the 16th is the BSC quiz and Fitting Out Supper.* These are always light-hearted, enjoyable events where we can pit our wits against each other, rejoice in the height of our brilliance one moment and wallow in the trough of general ignorance the next.
This year we have hired Langley Village Hall. Start time is 7.30 and the cost is £5.50 including supper.
*Please note that the Fitting Out Supper which was to have been on April 5th has been moved forward and combined with the quiz.
Beccles A.S.C versus Buckenham S.C quiz.
This year Beccles are hosting this inter-club brainfest at Geldeston Locks Public House on Friday, February the 22nd.Start time 7.30.
Free sailing afternoons.
This season for the first time ever the last Sunday in every month will have no organised racing in the afternoon. This is an opportunity to get onto the water in a more relaxed and informal way, with the advantage of the back-up and safety cover that the club can provide.
If you don't feel confident enough to take part in racing or you want to learn how to set a course, be a race officer, or have a go in the safety boat this is an ideal way to learn.
Alternitavely if you just want to "mess around in boats" that's fine.
Please come along and make these days a success. Dates for your diary:
May 25th, June 29th, July 22nd, August 31st, September 28th.
Club sailing dinghy
Last season the club purchased a Leader sailing dinghy. This is available for use, (for a small donation) by club members. The Leader is a stable 14 foot dinghy, suitable for both racing two up, or cruising with three people on board. Please book on the form in the clubhouse.
Clothing Sale
Many items half price!
Polo shirts £7.50, Sweat Shirts £9.00. Available in the clubhouse on winter work days. Hoodies still available at £18.00.
Open Regatta weekend 5th and 6th July
Let's make this event the highlight of our season!
This year racing will take place on Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Depending on the good old English weather fun events may be organised, and for those wishing to stay later on Saturday evening, the barbecue will be lit. Bring your own food.
